What to Wear: On Easter

When we opened The Hive, there were certain things we anticipated and others that we did not. One of the things we did not plan for was how many of our customers would come in looking for an Easter dress (or outfit). A few weeks ago, the pickings were slim. But thanks to the arrival of Tibi, Ulla Johnson and other spring collections, we can now confidently point you toward twenty Easter-worthy looks that work for anything from a formal church service to a casual family gathering.

Set your DVR. This is worth it.

We are so excited for and proud of our friend Danielle of fibre space! This Sunday morning at 7:30AM she is going to appear on MSNBC’s Your Business, the only television show dedicated to issues affecting small business owners. Now in its tenth season, the program has profiled hundreds of small business owners and offered advice from countless business experts and investors. We can’t think of anyone more deserving of this! And thank you, Danielle, for letting us dress you!

Hunt for eggs and fabulous prizes this weekend!

The Old Town Boutique District is hosting its inaugural Easter Egg Hunt Friday, April 7 (tomorrow) through Sunday, April 9. Visit all participating boutiques and you could win one of three amazing Easter baskets, each valued at approximately $400. These baskets are filled with unconventional treats from your favorite shops including us (!!), Pacers, 529 Kids Consign, La Cuisine and Red Barn Mercantile that will be enjoyed long after the Bunny has departed for the year.

Here’s how it works:
1. Download the map, or pick one up at Pink & Brown Boutique (1129 King St.) or Fleurir Chocolates (704 Jefferson St.).
2. Visit each participating boutique and find its hidden egg.
3. Once the egg is spotted, bring your map to the counter for a stamp.
4. Write your name, email, and phone number on the back of your map.
5. Return your completed map to Pink & Brown or Fleurir Chocolates.
6. Three lucky winners will be randomly drawn.

We hope to see you on the hunt this weekend!

Going somewhere? Pack these sandals.

Fashion can be funny. We’re now told we can wear suede all year round and booties are four-season shoes. The rules keep changing. So it’s not surprising customers are sometimes confused when they see closed-toe suede flats and heeled booties on our shelves despite the rising temperatures.

We put this list of sandals together to reassure you that if you aren’t comfortable with the ever-evolving fashion decrees you can still find what you’re looking for in our store. Whether you’re headed to the beach, to Barcelona, or just to Belle Haven–we have the sandal for you!

Shop for Good: Spring2Action with The Alexandria Seaport Foundation

Every year for Spring2Action, we partner up with a local group that is doing good in our community. This year, we’ve asked The Alexandria Seaport Foundation to join us for a special shopping event. Kathleen Jones, who sits on the board of the foundation, and Kathy Seifert, who serves as the group’s VP of Development, are longtime friends and supporters of our stores. This couldn’t be a better match!

The Alexandria Seaport Foundation is a non-profit organization which focuses on serving at-risk youth through adult mentoring, project based learning and the building of wooden boats. Tomorrow from 6-9PM at The Shoe Hive, we will be serving cocktails in the courtyard and donating 20% of all purchases to this worthy cause. Come shop with us and know that you are making a meaningful contribution to your community!

Lessons in Tying Scarves: A Special Event

Do you find yourself purchasing scarves and then never wearing them because you don’t know how to tie them? Are you perplexed by the idea of a spring scarf altogether? Well, we are here to answer all of your scarf-related questions and to provide scarf solutions! This Thursday, March 30th from 7-9PM, we will host blogger and author Lauren Friedman of “50 Ways to Wear a Scarf” for a special scarf-tying event.

Bring in your own trouble scarf for ideas on how to wear it or find a new one to wear at The Hive! Lauren will walk us through a handful of her favorite scarf-tying tips, too. The event is limited to the first twenty-five to sign up. You can RSVP here. The event is free of charge as long as you sign up in advance. (Side note: Lauren’s brief presentation will start at 7:20-ish so please don’t be too late if you sign up.)

For this event, we’ve brought in a limited selection of scarves by Yarnz, Piccolo and Janavi and all of them will be marked down 20% for event participants. Booze, bites, and lots of fun–we hope you’ll join us!

Everyone’s Favorite Bag Brand: A Trunk Show

Some things just never get old, and somehow Annabel Ingall turns out new and equally beautiful bags every season. It doesn’t matter that we’ve carried the brand for years, we’re still excited by what they’re offering! This spring, The Shoe Hive is teaming up with the designer behind our bestselling bag for this week’s trunk show.

All weekend long you’ll get 20 percent off all Annabel Ingall purchases, whether you leave with a bag in hand or place an order for one to arrive in the future. We received the list of product the company was sending us for the special event and it is three pages long! But even if that’s not enough you can still get anything you see on their website at the discounted price. (Hint: this is a great time to shop for Mother’s Day!)

When it comes to handbags, it doesn’t get better than Annabel Ingall; her bags are classic but interesting, durable but feminine. Elizabeth, Christen, and Madeline all three carry her bags regularly and it’s just a matter of time before the rest of the team does, too!
