When we opened The Hive, one of the things that most excited us about our new location was how neighborly our block felt. Our friends at Ivy Lane and La Cuisine and the style mavens behind Donna Lewis and Donna Lewis YogaSport are just a few steps away. There’s much more foot traffic on that corner than over by The Shoe Hive, and we take full advantage of being around the corner from our favorite lunch spot–Momo Sushi.
Well, we feel lucky to be adding one more fantastic neighbor to the mix–Home on Cameron. Located at 315 Cameron Street, Home on Cameron is the new retail and design collaboration of design veterans Susan Nelson and Todd Martz. Susan, principal of Susan Nelson Interiors, and Todd, former owner of American Eye Showroom in the Washington Design Center, have partnered to offer a curated collection of upholstered furniture, custom tables by a DC cabinetmaker, local art, couture chandeliers and lamps, colorful ceramics, and even wooden toys and dog items, as well as design services.
To celebrate Home on Cameron’s addition to the neighborhood, we are hosting a block party this Thursday with food, drinks and lots of fun! Help us give them a warm welcome by coming out and celebrating with us!
We are so excited for and proud of our friend Danielle of fibre space! This Sunday morning at 7:30AM she is going to appear on MSNBC’s Your Business, the only television show dedicated to issues affecting small business owners. Now in its tenth season, the program has profiled hundreds of small business owners and offered advice from countless business experts and investors. We can’t think of anyone more deserving of this! And thank you, Danielle, for letting us dress you!
The Old Town Boutique District is hosting its inaugural Easter Egg Hunt Friday, April 7 (tomorrow) through Sunday, April 9. Visit all participating boutiques and you could win one of three amazing Easter baskets, each valued at approximately $400. These baskets are filled with unconventional treats from your favorite shops including us (!!), Pacers, 529 Kids Consign, La Cuisine and Red Barn Mercantile that will be enjoyed long after the Bunny has departed for the year.
Here’s how it works:
1. Download the map, or pick one up at Pink & Brown Boutique (1129 King St.) or Fleurir Chocolates (704 Jefferson St.).
2. Visit each participating boutique and find its hidden egg.
3. Once the egg is spotted, bring your map to the counter for a stamp.
4. Write your name, email, and phone number on the back of your map.
5. Return your completed map to Pink & Brown or Fleurir Chocolates.
6. Three lucky winners will be randomly drawn.
We hope to see you on the hunt this weekend!
Every year for Spring2Action, we partner up with a local group that is doing good in our community. This year, we’ve asked The Alexandria Seaport Foundation to join us for a special shopping event. Kathleen Jones, who sits on the board of the foundation, and Kathy Seifert, who serves as the group’s VP of Development, are longtime friends and supporters of our stores. This couldn’t be a better match!
The Alexandria Seaport Foundation is a non-profit organization which focuses on serving at-risk youth through adult mentoring, project based learning and the building of wooden boats. Tomorrow from 6-9PM at The Shoe Hive, we will be serving cocktails in the courtyard and donating 20% of all purchases to this worthy cause. Come shop with us and know that you are making a meaningful contribution to your community!
As we close in on the Christmas holiday, there were just a few things we wanted to review with you. First, here are our holiday hours:
Christmas Eve: 10AM to 4PM.
Christmas Day: Closed.
December 26th: Return to regular hours, 10AM to 7PM.
Additionally, we learned the City of Alexandria is offering FREE PARKING all three of these days! So if you’re wrapping up some last minute shopping tomorrow, paying the city’s Christmas tree a visit with the family on Christmas Day or having a late brunch the day after–you won’t have to worry about your car!
And since we have your attention, we wanted to say thank you one more time. Thank you for your kindness, loyalty, and support. We literally could not do what we do without all of you!
Attention all ghouls, goblins, super heroes, and princesses! Stop by your favorite boo-tiques on Halloween for a treat. Spend the afternoon collecting goodies and enjoying historical Old Town. Perfect for first-time trick-or-treaters and little ones who want a daytime activity. Also a great warm-up for Lee Street and your neighborhood trick-or-treating. No tricks about it! Details on all the Old Town happenings this Halloween here!
We know this has nothing really to do about us except for the fact that we love these two businesses and wanted to share their event with you. 529 Kids Consign located at 122A South Royal Street is hosting a Ruth Barzel Jewelry trunk show tomorrow, Wednesday, September 21 from 4-6PM. In addition to shopping Ruth’s latest collection of handmade pieces, Megan, friend and owner of 529 Kids Consign, wanted to make sure our readers and followers knew that there would also be a 10% discount on all 529 kids clothing along with “vino, of course!”
529 Kids Consign is an upscale children’s and maternity consignment boutique specializing in the latest trends. Quality is important to Megan and her staff, which is why they are particular about their brands. Offering not only consignment items but also the freshest and trendiest must haves for hip moms and cool kids makes 529 the place to shop!
If you’re not yet familiar with Ruth Barzel‘s designs, you should be! Ruth Barzel’s pieces are minimalistic and delicate. She uses gold-filled and sterling silver wire, different types of chain, semiprecious stones, and pearls. She makes her pieces using a wire-wrapping technique and creates each piece by hand with love, care, and attention to detail in her little studio in Arlington, Virginia. Her goal is to create simple, elegant, affordable jewelry that works with anything you’re wearing and allows you to look effortlessly fabulous every day.
Christen has helped Ruth in the past with photography and styling, and is a big fan of her jewelry. Megan has been a longtime supporter of and shopper at The Shoe Hive, and has become close friends with both Christen and Elizabeth. There’s not much better than two entrepreneurial and creative women collaborating…and just a block away from us!
Ruth, Megan and Christen were all recently together at Christen’s launch event for her clothing line!
