Meet the Rep: Hilary Buras

When you think about it, The Shoe Hive carries a ton of brands. And for each brand there is a rep. Sometimes, Elizabeth and I are confused as to why a certain rep is matched with a certain brand–they just don’t seem to fit. But every now and then a rep is the veritable embodiment of his or her brand, and Hilary is the latter. Perfectly elegant and well-spoken, she carries herself with the confidence that comes only with experience and expertise. Her style is classic with a twist, and always feminine. This indeed makes her a perfect fit for Dee Keller, a brand we recently wrote about on AlexandriaStylebook.com as being a major design crush of ours.

Hilary always greets us with a big smile and a soft southern drawl. She is easy to work with, quick to respond, and in everything and ever way a total class act. Dee Keller is lucky to have her!

Below, Hilary answers a few questions about her and her job.

4. How long have you worked in this industry?
I have worked in the Fashion Industry since graduating from LSU with degree in Fashion Merchandising and minor in Business. In college I interned in NYC with Mint by Jodi Arnold which confirmed my love for the industry. I went on to work on the Retail side as manager and assistant buyer. From there I moved into wholesale with Dee Keller. In total it has been 7 years.
5. Favorite shoe/piece of all time?
I would have to say, my wedding shoes. The Scheffy (my new Last Name) was created for my wedding. It is the perfect heel height and classic evening shoe!

6. Best part of your job?
Traveling and working with all of my accounts across the country!
7. If you weren’t in fashion, what would you be doing?
Wow that is a good question! My husband is a residential contractor so I would probably be working in interior design on his projects. I also have my real estate license!
8. How do you spend your free time?
Spending time with my husband, family and friends. I am a huge beach lover so we travel to the Florida panhandle quite frequently.
9. Predict the future: What will be the next big trend?
I leave that up to my expert boss, Dee Keller!

10. What’s in? What’s out?
In my opinion, sky high heels are out and everyone is moving towards a heel height that is more wearable in your everyday life. Most of our heel heights stay at 90mm.
11. Heels or flats? / Dresses or jeans?
I am 100% a flat sandal and dress girl! Living in Louisiana, I get to do that at least 7 months out of the year!
12. Why should our customers buy your [shoes/clothes]?
Dee Keller offers a unique product where you can be on trend without stepping too far out of your comfort zone! For an Italian made product the price point is great, too!

Meet the Rep: Karina De Jesus

When you meet Karina, you are instantly struck by her model-good looks, easy-going style and her soft accent. It turns out, Karina is from Latvia and her first introduction to the United States was Cleveland, Ohio–a fact over which she and Elizabeth bonded. “I grew up in a city in Latvia so it was a very different experience to go to a small college in Ohio, to have to drive a car everywhere.”

Still, Karina says that she appreciates her time in Ohio and believes that it was the right choice for her even though she now lives in New York. “I got a good taste of the Midwest!” Here’s our interview with Karina:

1. What brand do you represent?
Freda Salvador. However, I work at Archetype Showroom so I am in charge of several brands.
2. How long have you worked there?
A year and a half.
3. What city is your brand based out of?
Freda Salvador is based in San Francisco, but our showroom is in New York.
4. How long have you worked in this industry?
I’ve been in the industry for about 5 years. I started out with blogging, researching, attending shows and then got into sales.

5. Favorite shoe/piece of all time?
That’s a hard question! It’s not about one specific item, rather I tend to have an aesthetic that I always go back to – an oversized bomber jacket and black pointy toe boots.
6. Best part of your job?
I love the people I meet. The industry is full of interesting characters and I can learn from everyone. I also really enjoy being able to grow a designer’s business. There are so many talented people out there, and it feels really great to contribute to someone’s success.
7. If you weren’t in fashion, what would you be doing?
I would probably be in finance. It has always been a struggle between creativity and practicality.
8. How do you spend your free time?
With people that I love. Church, art galleries, parties, blogging, creating, food, traveling, concerts. I was just thinking today how grateful I am for the life I have the opportunity to live.

9. Predict the future: What will be the next big trend?
I think people are getting more and more tired of doing the same thing as everyone else so we will see lots of different interesting things – disheveled shapes and proportions, interesting use of fabrics (like duvet) and colors.
10. What’s in? What’s out?
There are lots of different styles that are in right now, but I am really into the more street, raw aesthetic. Clean yet edgy, oversized combined with super flattering silhouettes, denim. Ballet flats are a big no-no.
11. Heels or flats? / Dresses or jeans?
All of it!! I love a good heel as much as I love my sneakers and oxfords. Dresses are so easy and fun in the summer, but you’ll probably mostly see me wear really good denim.
12. Why should our customers buy your [shoes/clothes]?
Because they’re awesome! 🙂 They are hand made in Spain so the quality is really great and it has an artisan characteristic. Every pair is a little bit unique, and the style over all is super cool yet easy to wear every day.

Meet the Rep: Mollie Ketroser of Sundry

Mollie may be the only woman–aside from Alexa Chung–who can pull off overalls. But she rocks them! And we feel as if that says a lot about her–she is cool, laid back, fun, and 100% herself. Meeting her at the Sundry stop at market is always a highlight of our trip.

Case in point.

Case in point.

We sometimes intentionally choose to meet her a little later in the day as an afternoon pick-me-up! Below, read Mollie’s answers to our questions and I guarantee you will be as enamored with her as we are!

1. What brand do you represent? SUNDRY!
2. How long have you worked there? 5 years this summer. Although I work for Simon Showroom and Sundry is a brand we represent.
3. What city is your brand based out of? LA
4. How long have you worked in this industry? Since I graduated college in 2011, so into my 5th year 🙂
5. Favorite shoe/piece of all time? My Celine cross body bag in royal blue.
6. Best part of your job? I get to work with clothes every day! It’s fun to always be the first to know/see trends and what will be big for the next season.
7. If you weren’t in fashion, what would you be doing? It’s crazy, but I was always extremely interested in the medical field… I’d probably stick to sales and be a pharmaceutical rep.
8. How do you spend your free time? With friends! Everything is better with someone by your side–I love to see movies, shop, EAT!
9. Predict the future: What will be the next big trend? I never know. Trends and fads are so far-fetched these days you never know what to expect! Who would’ve thought the ’70s would make such a huge comeback… I’m not complaining!
10. What’s in? What’s out? The ’70s are in! Effortlessly chic is what spring is all about… I think people are over the days of dressing uncomfortably. I think fashion has evolved into style that looks and feels comfortable.
11. Heels or flats? / Dresses or jeans? I am a total dress girl! I pretty much only wear dresses and skirts with any type of flats… Mainly over the knee boots or dresses with sneakers.
12. Why should our customers buy your [shoes/clothes]? Sundry is all made in the USA and fits the bill perfectly. We strive to always have effortlessly fun and comfortable clothing that makes you feel good. The best part is it is great for women of all ages!
