Meet Lacey Eigel at The Hive

Hi! My name is Lacey and I am new to The Hive family! I am 22 years old and just recently moved to Alexandria from the Columbus, Ohio area to attend graduate school at The George Washington University. I am working towards getting my masters degree in forensic psychology. So yeah, I may be doing one of those cool jobs that you see on TV or I may end up working in assessment and evaluation of prisoners, mediating for child custody cases or sitting behind a desk analyzing data for the government. (Just thought I would cover that.)

Before moving to Alexandria I attended Wittenberg University in Springfield Ohio where I studied psychology, was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority and played college softball. I have lived in Ohio for most of my life with my parents, younger sister and dogs. While I have never worked retail before joining The Hive I really enjoy talking to people and figured it would be a great fit! Besides work and going to school I really enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, doing anything that has to do with dogs, working out, enjoying any kind of delicious food and going anywhere that involves live music!

How long have you worked at the Hive?
I began working here in August.

Do you have any fun stories or memories from working here?
One day Elizabeth told Christen that we were going to be giving away Unicorn horns to every customer for the gift with purchase and the look on Christen’s face was horrified, and priceless. Also, any evening in the store that includes our great customers, my coworkers and wine is one to remember!

What’s your favorite thing about working here?
My co-workers are amazing. I also enjoy that every day here is different whether I am helping someone shop for a special event, or modeling all the new clothing for a blog post photo shoot , it is never a boring day!

Who’s your favorite designer that we carry?
I LOVE the Mother denim and VEDA jackets at The Hive. I am also a fan of Sam Edelman and Rag and Bone!

What’s your go-to shoe trend?
I love a good bootie! Fall shoes in general!

Are there any trends you can’t get behind?

Cropped Wide leg pants.. more power to you if you can pull them off.

What’s your favorite pair you’ve acquired while working here?

I haven’t acquired many shoes yet but I have my eye on a few. I have june jacket that I have to convince myself not to wear every day.

This Weekend’s Raffles: No Purchase Required to Enter!

We are super excited for the start of our celebratory weekend tomorrow in honor of the grand opening of our new clothing store, The Hive at 301 Cameron. If you missed the list of events, you can get all the details here. But this post isn’t about the events, it’s about the gifts and the prizes. First, as long as supplies last, we will be giving to every shopper who makes a purchase a pair of these leather Tara Montgomery earrings:

Not looking to spend this weekend but want to get in on the fun? No purchase is required to enter our raffles–you just have to register in one of our two stores between Friday at 10AM and Sunday at 5PM. And the goods? Oh, the goods are good! A few days ago we snapped this photo of just a few of the things we will be raffling off including bags, jewelry, scarves, and a $500 gift card to each of our two stores–literally thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes! Since this photo was taken though even more raffle prizes have rolled in. Among them, a Lizzie Fortunato necklace and a Standard Form wool and cashmere wrap! (Click on the image for a larger view.)

If you haven’t yet, make plans to stop by The Shoe Hive and The Hive this weekend. And if you can attend one of our three events, even better!

Let the festivities begin!

In celebration of the Grand Opening of our new clothing store The Hive at 301 Cameron, we are launching a weekend of festivities. Part of the weekend’s plans include a special book signing event tomorrow evening (Friday, October 7th) from 5-7PM complete with fashion, discounts, gifts, champagne and chocolate!

Oh, and did we mention that we have LOADS of goodies to raffle off? The raffles include a Lizzie Fortunato statement necklace, large Gigi New York handbag, and cashmere scarves! All you have to do is stop by and register; no purchase required.

If you can’t make our Friday evening event, consider stopping by earlier in the day between 10 and 12 for a braid-and-juice-bar combo brought to you be Salon de Zen and Senzu Juicery. Great for moms and kids alike!

For a complete list of events, discounts and deals, check out a recent blog post here.

Mindful Monday is on a Tuesday!

Typically, Mindful Monday takes place every Monday at The Shoe Hive starting at 7PM. But this week, we are hosting a special charity event on Monday. We are just getting back into the groove of meeting weekly after a brief summer hiatus, and we really didn’t want to skip a week so soon after having started back. So, this week only, Mindful Monday is on a Tuesday. At 7PM. At The Shoe Hive.

Interested in joining us but have concerns or questions? Email us at and we’ll get back to you just as soon as we can! For details on Mindful Monday, what it is, what we do and who leads it, we recently wrote a blog post all about it. You can read it here.

Our new clothing store is now open!

The doors of our new store, The Hive, are now open at 301 Cameron Street in Old Town. Our hours at The Hive will be the same as at The Shoe Hive: 10-7 Monday through Saturday and 12-5 on Sunday.

At The Hive, we will offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.

Come by and see us, and swing by The Shoe Hive just a block away while you’re at it. At The Hive, there are still tons of deliveries to arrive and the store isn’t yet complete. But we wanted to get the doors open as soon as we could. Look for upcoming emails and blog posts about all our new offerings and of course, it wouldn’t be us if we didn’t throw a party. Once we get settled we will have a grand opening party you won’t want to miss.

The Return of Mindful Monday

We are so excited to announce the return of Mindful Monday with Gina White, the Mindful Junkie, this coming Monday, September 12. After a brief summer hiatus, we are reopening our store once a week (every Monday) after hours (at 7PM) for a brief talk on mindfulness followed by a guided meditation led by Gina. The drop-in fee is $20 but if you commit to attending five times, Gina will offer the sixth training to you free of charge!

If you are new to meditation and mindfulness, Gina fosters a comfortable environment and makes it easy to start. If you already have a meditation practice, this is your chance to learn new techniques and grow your practice while connecting with others who have similar interests.

Please follow The Shoe Hive on Instagram, Facebook or stay tuned to our blog for updates and information about September’s sessions.
