Did you know that sisters are at the helm of both Lizzie Fortunato and Twine & Twig? It’s true!
Twin sisters Lizzie and Kathryn Fortunato founded Lizzie Fortunato in 2008 with the intent of creating unique accessories that use unexpected materials and champion handicrafts from a breadth of places and cultures. Lizzie designs the line, while Kathryn, who got her start on Wall Street, oversees sales and operations.
A love of the rustic outdoors, combined with a great appreciation for the casual calm offered by the North Carolina coast, inspired sisters Elizabeth Stafford White and Jacquelyn Stafford Buckner, to begin designing jewelry. From there, the sisters collaborated on the launch of Twine & Twig in late 2013, creating a line of jewelry that reflects both designers’ love for natural, organic beauty, as well as their southern roots and extensive worldly travels.
We consider ourselves lucky to work with such talented young women who believe in both the importance of family and fashion. In celebration of spring and of sisters, we are hosting a double trunk show this coming weekend. You’ll find a special and expanded trunk-show-only selection of jewelry and other accessories by Lizzie Fortunato at The Hive and by Twine & Twig at The Shoe Hive. All designs by the two brands will be 20% off from Friday to Sunday only.
And since we’re recognizing the importance of family, it is perhaps good timing to note you might consider this your chance to get a head start on Mothers Day shopping!
The Old Town Boutique District is hosting its inaugural Easter Egg Hunt Friday, April 7 (tomorrow) through Sunday, April 9. Visit all participating boutiques and you could win one of three amazing Easter baskets, each valued at approximately $400. These baskets are filled with unconventional treats from your favorite shops including us (!!), Pacers, 529 Kids Consign, La Cuisine and Red Barn Mercantile that will be enjoyed long after the Bunny has departed for the year.
Here’s how it works:
1. Download the map, or pick one up at Pink & Brown Boutique (1129 King St.) or Fleurir Chocolates (704 Jefferson St.).
2. Visit each participating boutique and find its hidden egg.
3. Once the egg is spotted, bring your map to the counter for a stamp.
4. Write your name, email, and phone number on the back of your map.
5. Return your completed map to Pink & Brown or Fleurir Chocolates.
6. Three lucky winners will be randomly drawn.
We hope to see you on the hunt this weekend!
Every year for Spring2Action, we partner up with a local group that is doing good in our community. This year, we’ve asked The Alexandria Seaport Foundation to join us for a special shopping event. Kathleen Jones, who sits on the board of the foundation, and Kathy Seifert, who serves as the group’s VP of Development, are longtime friends and supporters of our stores. This couldn’t be a better match!
The Alexandria Seaport Foundation is a non-profit organization which focuses on serving at-risk youth through adult mentoring, project based learning and the building of wooden boats. Tomorrow from 6-9PM at The Shoe Hive, we will be serving cocktails in the courtyard and donating 20% of all purchases to this worthy cause. Come shop with us and know that you are making a meaningful contribution to your community!
Do you find yourself purchasing scarves and then never wearing them because you don’t know how to tie them? Are you perplexed by the idea of a spring scarf altogether? Well, we are here to answer all of your scarf-related questions and to provide scarf solutions! This Thursday, March 30th from 7-9PM, we will host blogger and author Lauren Friedman of “50 Ways to Wear a Scarf” for a special scarf-tying event.
Bring in your own trouble scarf for ideas on how to wear it or find a new one to wear at The Hive! Lauren will walk us through a handful of her favorite scarf-tying tips, too. The event is limited to the first twenty-five to sign up. You can RSVP here. The event is free of charge as long as you sign up in advance. (Side note: Lauren’s brief presentation will start at 7:20-ish so please don’t be too late if you sign up.)
For this event, we’ve brought in a limited selection of scarves by Yarnz, Piccolo and Janavi and all of them will be marked down 20% for event participants. Booze, bites, and lots of fun–we hope you’ll join us!
Since we opened last September we have consistently reloaded our racks at The Hive with clothing from Veronica Beard, and still we can’t seem to keep it in stock! It turns out our customers love the brand just as much as we do, and we could not be more pleased.
To celebrate the arrival of spring and all of the fun fashions that come with it, we are hosting a Veronica Beard trunk show this weekend, Friday, March 10 through Sunday, March 12. Join us for this exclusive showing of the brand’s Spring 2017 collection and any Veronica Beard purchases (including special orders) will be 20% off. Our brand rep–one of our favorite people–will be on location to help with sizing and fit as well as styling.
The pieces our rep is bringing with her will only be available through Sunday; they get shipped back the next morning. This is your only chance to shop an expanded selection of the brand’s collection in person at a discount!
And you haven’t even heard the best news yet! The Veronica Beard team is generously giving us a VB jacket to raffle off–the only requirement to participate is the in-person entry of your name and email address. No purchase required!
Have any questions about this event? Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or give us a call 703.548.7110.

In our opinion, Valentine’s Day is a little like New Year’s Eve. Every year, the hype seems to grow but the event itself rarely lives up to our expectations. Well this year we’re changing that: Spend Valentine’s Day with us! We’ll hang out, indulge in champagne and chocolate, talk spring trends and do a little shopping.
Our styling and management staff will be on hand to answer any and all styling questions you might have or to steer you toward the shoes and clothing that will carry you the furthest in seasons to come. Additionally, our friend and chef extraordinaire Tallulah (who also happens to be Penelope’s sister) will be catering the event. Take 20% off any full-priced items by showing us your RSVP to this event, limited to the first 50 people who sign up. There’s a ton of new spring arrivals that won’t otherwise go on sale until the Summer Sidewalk Sale…if they make it that far!
Will you be our Valentine? RSVP here.
Mark your calendars! The Super Bowl of Shopping is here. This year’s annual Alexandria Warehouse Sale is Saturday, February 4 from 9am to 4pm at The Westin located off Duke Street in the Carlyle neighborhood of Alexandria. It will be bigger and better than ever!
This is the second year the event will be held at the Westin and we are so excited to have secured the larger, more convenient location a second time. With over twenty-five vendors, we are going to need the space! Each year we have more than one thousand shoppers come through the doors in search of great deals on diamonds, designer shoes and everything in between. You won’t find deeper discounts and it is a great way to discover new local stores with which you may not have been familiar.
