Good News/Bad News

My Ohio U. Bobcats lost a heartbreaker last night in overtime to North Carolina and I’m still bummed about it. I was all prepared to drive to Athens, Ohio for the post-game party (never mind that it’s 6 hours away; the key to being the nation’s number one party school is not letting logic interfere too often).

I watched the game on an ipad in a restaurant – a fact noted by my husband who now feels like he has a free pass to pull that trick next football season.

Bye, bye Bobcats – that’s the bad news. But we did get a bit of good news yesterday too at The Shoe Hive: the April edition of Washingtonian Magazine hit the newsstand. I was thrilled to be selected to participate in a Women of Fashion feature in this issue, representing the success of the Old Town Boutique District.

We’ve come a long way at the OTBD – growing to 35 great boutiques and putting Alexandria on the map as the DC Region’s premier shopping destination — and a lot of people deserve the credit. Kim Putens of Bloomers joined me in launching the OTBD. Amy Rutherford of Red Barn Mercantile and Danielle Romanetti of Fibre Space have long been integral to the group and all the other 30 store owners make it all happen.

If I could pick any reason to be included in a Women of Fashion feature, this would be it — for the success of small business owners working together to create something that has a big impact on their success and on our community.

Some of my friends have asked who designed the dress. I used this as a reason to do some major shopping, Alexander McQueen.

Bobcat Nation

Nine years back on my 4 year wedding anniversary my husband toasted to the best 4 years of his life.I love my husband, but I had to hesitate.  I went to Ohio University.  I think it would be illegal to have more fun than you do at Ohio University. Yes, part of this is because it is ranked one of top party schools, which I helped in that ranking from 1991 to 1995. There are many more reasons. The campus is beautiful and you can walk everywhere, but the main reason is the people.

This summer I will head to the beach again with my 5 college roommates, our husbands and our 13 children. Most of the time we will discuss how they missed out and could not have possibly had as much fun as we did at Ohio University.  We will tell the same stories and laugh just as much as we did when they happened, We will also make sure we tell these stories when our children are sleeping.

Tonight my Bobcats play in the Sweet 16 for the first time since the 60s!  I have always loved college basketball but it is always more fun to watch when your alma matter is playing.  I decided it would be wrong for me to post a photo on a fashion blog with me wearing an OU sweatshirt, so this Nanette Lepore jacket will have to do.
